Leading lady in our Portraits series today is Dominique Galliot (1965). Born and raised close to the sea in Ostend, Belgium. As Retail Director Benelux-Scandinivia for French luxury brand Cartier, she travels a lot during the week. She loves people as much as luxury goods and aims always for the best. Add an elegant Belgian accent to that and you’ll have the full picture.
When the weekend starts, Dominique exchanges her busy, hectic workdays for pure tranquility in the Southwest of Holland – close to Belgium, in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. These days are very precious to her, spending quality time with her longtime husband André. Actually, they celebrate their 23rd anniversary today, congratz!
Lucky Dominique, her Dutch husband is a passionate cook (and a skilled Big Green Egg chef) so one evening in the weekend is reserved for a delicious home cooked dinner with friends.
Hér greatest passion is golf and holding a 13,2 hcp proofs her skills. For Dominique playing golf is the perfect way to disconnect from business.
How do you feel about being over fifty?
I don’t mind at all. Honestly, it was a smooth transition from 49 to 50. My husband organized an amazing dinner and even after 23 years he knows how to surprise me. Colleagues at work made sure that this birthday didn’t stay unnoticed. I feel good & happy.
Which age is your favourite time? Would you like to go back?
I would say 38, settling into the Netherlands, building our house and making some nice trips. I clearly remember our fantastic trip through Australia. Jobwise I made some good decisions. The base from where I am now started around that time. But no going back for me, too curious what lays ahead.
What would your ideal day look like? No restrictions.
This ideal day would be a sunny one. With deep blue skies. We have an early tee time at Pebble Beach in California after a healthy breakfast in our lodge. It’s evident we play a fantastic round of golf, improve our hcps and are mesmerized by both the white bunker sand and stunning sea views.
This sporty start of the day needs some relaxation as reward so next will be a 2 hour spa treatment in the couples treatment room on the rocks overlooking the ocean at Anya Spa-on-the-rocks in Bali. Totally relaxed and rejuvenated we dress up and close the day with a superb dinner for two with my lovely husband at Noma in Copenhagen where chef René Redzepi surprises us with a 2** tasting dinner.
Where are you 10 years from now or what’s on your wish/bucket list?
I am still working in the luxury retail business. I love my job. Though if it’s up to me, I would say work a bit less and travel a bit more. My travel bucket list is a long, long one. Still have to do a jungle trip and observe Orang Oetangs in Indonesia, visit Antarctica, discover Alaska and explore Japan. Oh, something else comes in mind: I really would like to join the Formula 1, drive a Mclaren.
From which experience did you learn, what made you stronger?
Moving to the Netherlands made me stronger, these two small countries might seem similar but I still experience a cultural difference. I needed to stand up for myself more.
Recently the passing away of my father was a tough life experience. All these experiences taught me to never give up and – very important – keep the faith. That’s my philosophy. In the years ahead I strive for fun in life and stay in good shape and health.
What is your golden beauty trick or favourite product?
Three things I can’t do without. I’m keen on taking care of my hands and my no. 1 hand cream is White Caviar Illumating hand cream spf 15 from La Prairie, for face the Super Moisturiser+ from Environ and recently I discovered – tip from an international client – the anti-aging eye cream from EMK, Beverly Hills.
Which book/film/music shaped/changed you and why should we read it?
I can really enjoy listening to Leonard Cohen, listening to his voice is relaxing and soothing.
