#onepieceamonth investment no. 4: Gucci Backpack

Gucci backpack black bamboo Leather

Veni, vidi, Gucci. The June addition to my 2016 #onepieceamonth wardrobe challenge comes all the way from Scotland, Edinburgh. From Gucci at Harvey Nichols to be specific.
And – this may sound strange – almost by accident. During our road trip through Scotland we left the countryside last Friday for a lunch and city stroll in beautiful Edinburgh.
After visiting the National Portrait Gallery, we passed by Harvey Nichols at St. Andrew Square. While peeking at the Gucci window, I mentioned casually to mr. B. that I still have a small crush on a Gucci backpack with bamboo handle which is sold out everywhere. Let’s check the Gucci shop inside, was his pragmatic answer.
Believe it or not, there it was. In black, on the shelf next to a discrete 40% discount sign. Summer sale. I didn’t even took a picture of this miraculous image and once the sales rep took it down, it never went up…

Gucci backpack, back to the 80’s

For the second time around –  retro is inevitable after fifty –  I fell in love with a backpack. This type of bag and I were inseparable in the ’80’s and 90’s. The original Gucci-backpack-with-bamboo-handle was high on my style wish list that time but never made it to my collection. Too expensive. I owned a suede backpack, can’t remember – also inevitable after fifty – the name of the brand.
What I like most about this bag now, apart from having your hands free, is the understated class. No big logo’s, high quality soft leather and the signature Gucci bamboo handle and bamboo pocket closures. Add my love for tassels to this and the fact that I do not own a similar bag, a perfect addition to my bag collection.

While I walked away from this cute Gucci backpack to check out the loafers (just looking!) and think about to buy or not to buy, mr. B. acted on his own. By the time I answered the question if I would wear this bag more than #30wears with a very clear yes, the sales rep was already gift wrapping the bag. A 11th wedding anniversary – next week – present. How sweet is this? Will wear this classic on my back with love, for a very long time.
