Pink (golf) ladies for a day. The annual Audemars Piguet golf trophy introduces a special Ladies Trophy for the very first time this year. And what a day it was!
We enjoyed a day out on the course with perfect – for me – golf weather. Clouds in the sky, around 20°C and no wind. Add the perfect location to that, The International in Amsterdam, and we have all ingredients to start a new week in golf style.
Audemars Piguet golf trophy 2018
Swiss luxury watch brand Audemars Piguet, from 1875, sponsors a dream team of professional golf ambassadors. Darren Clarke, Paul Dunne, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Ian Poulter and Vijay Singh. To name a few.
AP organises its own series of private tournaments at prestigious golf courses around the world, with one of the golf ambassadors present. We enjoyed the company of Irish Paul Dunne, playing alongside a professional is something special. Even more because we could add a birdie to our scorecard. Tnx, Paul and we wish you luck at the Dutch Open today.
Our day started with a dedicated locker filled with AP golf gifts. After a community table breakfast, culinary surprises awaited us on several holes in the course. The price-giving ceremony (our team had the longest drive, you go Joan!) in the large restaurant tent of Dutch chef Herman de Blijker was as delicious as cosy.
The International Golf club
Rough and Scottish, that’s how I like them. Golf courses. Or to be more specific, golf links. According to the British Golf Museum (yes, there is one) links are coastal strips of land where seaside transitions into farmland. Add stunning seaviews mixed with fighting the elements – hello, wind – to clearly conclude: this is golf. My favourite Scottish links course is Kingsbarns.
Back to Amsterdam. The International golf club opened in 2013 and lies between the airport (Schiphol) and the city. The championship – host to KLM Dutch Open 2019 – course has the outlook and specifics of a true links course. Except that it is not located between sea and farmland.
Ah well, the seaside isn’t that far away in our small country anyway, minor detail. The course has a stunning lay out and you can never ever leave your golf guard down without direct punishment. The difference in height is of a mere 14 meters which results in sturdy walks and wide views. My favourite hole? Definitely hole 16. A par 4 where course management is a must or take a dive after your drive.
