Atelier Gaasterland is the ultimate hideaway to completely unwind yourself.
It is located in Gaasterland in the South West of Friesland, The Netherlands.
The breathtaking surroundings are more wooded and sloping than I used to know from the North. Oudemirdum is the most beautiful part of the region.
It has ancient forests, green meadows, the dike along the IJsselmeer, beautiful lakes, cliffs, elegant avenues, little villages, golf courses, many activities, and above all the hospitable people. It makes Gaasterland what it is: colorful.
The perfect hideaway for the 50 plus community.
Atelier Gaasterland
The holiday house, Atelier Gaasterland, next to the country house of the owners, Rik, Iebele, and Joop is located on an avenue of old impressive trees, at the end of a path lined with old Rhododendrons.
They bought their country house 8 years ago to enjoy the Frisian outdoor life, to be closer to the family of Iebele, and to escape their hectic life in Amsterdam. They designed and built the holiday house three years ago.
The modern house of 95 m2 is carefully decorated from top to bottom with love and devotion and with a special eye for detail. The exterior is based upon the clean lines of Scandinavian design, with huge windows overviewing the hilly countryside. Atelier Gaasterland is suitable for two persons.
Interior design of Atelier Gaasterland
The ultimate passion for interior design, creativity, and art is all over the place. Once inside, the house feels like a warm blanket, you just don’t want to leave anymore. There was a bottle of white wine, Sûkerbôle (A Frisian luxury version of white bread), and a little welcome note, waiting for me.
Atelier Gaasterland has a wooden stove, a beautiful table, and a lamp designed by Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek. The colorful chairs are a mix of vintage and design.
The sheepskins, glassware, and ceramics are designed by local designers.
The heated cast floor has warm carpets. Cushions in Kilim style,
sheepskins, a fully equipped handmade kitchen, and a stunning bathroom with a rain shower and luxurious natural body care products from Marie-Stella-Maris.
Art
As an art-lover, I was pleasantly surprised by the paintings, all over the house, made by local artists.
They made one exception, the eyecatcher of the house; the intimate print of the Belgian artist Eva Claessens.
Rik, Joop, and Iebele bought the painting during their trip around the world, in Uruguay.
Perfect hideaway
Besides interior enthusiasts, it is also the perfect hideaway for nature lovers. The house is located in the middle of nature, to distance yourself from everything. The ultimate place to retreat, to find inspiration, peace, and creativity.
